Century 21 History

Now that Century 21 NYC is back in New York City we wanted to give you a brief history of the brand and let you know what's in store for the future. Often quoted for the intention to "deliver value to live better," Entrepreneur Cousins and Native New Yorkers Al and Sonny Gindi opened the doors of our very own Century 21 Department Store in 1961.

Inspired by the World's Fair Century 21 Exposition, where the main exhibit was called the "21-minute tour of the future," the Gindi cousins named their first discount boutique in Lower Manhattan, Century 21. The Gindi cousins believed in making beautiful products accessible to everyone, regardless of income, and we're with them to this day in carrying out this very agenda.

Now with the reopening of our doors after a three-year hiatus, Century 21 NYC is back with an all-new and improved logo and an even more refined focus on new and emerging designers. With this in mind, we welcome and invite all new and old Century 21 NYC customers to explore all four of our flagship floors for an even more expertly curated selection of today's most sought-after brands.
