Our History

In 1961, the Gindi family opened the first Century 21 store in New York City. With the dream of creating a shopping experience where they could as they say, “deliver value to live better.” They believed that luxury items should be accessible to everyone.

While living in Brooklyn, cousins Al and Sonny Gindi heard that the upcoming World’s Fair would be called the Century 21 Exposition where the main exhibit was a “21-minute tour of the future.” Inspired by the name, they opened the first off-price boutique in Lower Manhattan called Century 21.

A New Era

Making its return home, Century 21 re-opens the doors of its iconic flagship location in downtown Manhattan. The new and improved off-price retailer invites you to experience a revitalized and exceptionally unique shopping experience.
